The Nifty has seen a lousy May though it recovered towards the end, with a -2.8% return for the month. May is officially the fourth month of the year that’s negative.

Monthly Returns of the Nifty

For the year to date, we have seen a return of -21%, which is now the worst year-till-May ever. From the time the Nifty has started, this is the worst year-to-date return at this time.

SIP returns Look Horrible

We all know that one year returns are bad. Even three years are lousy. But at this point, even you had been diligently investing every month for five years, your annualised returns would have been negative.

At this point, even five year systematic investments, which is, investing every single month for five years, shows a negative return of -0.2% per year Click To Tweet

This is also the worst 10 time to look at even 10 year returns, which are now lower than 5%.

Not a fun time to look back, but this is perhaps a better time to start than any other. It appears, going by a bunched set of investments by funds abroad in Indian companies (Airtel, Hindustan Unilever-GSK, Jio, etc) that at least some people think so, and with mutual fund SIPs continuing to be positive, perhaps this isn’t lost on the domestic public too.
