Domestic Airlines Report Card for November 2015

We bring to you the “Domestic Airlines Report Card” for the month of November, 2015. We take a look at the Number of Passengers carried, Market Share of Each Carrier, Passenger Load Factor and others. (Here is the Report Card for October, 2015)

Passengers Carried and Market Share

The total number of passenger carried during the month of November, 2015 stood at 73.22 lakhs compared to 58.74 lakhs during the same month of the previous year. This resulted in a growth of +24.65% (YoY).

Total passengers carried for the period Jan-Nov increased from 609.42 lakh passengers to 733.82 lakh passengers resulting in a growth of +20.41%.

Indigo Airlines  – the market leader with +35.5% market share, carried 25.98 lakh passengers compared to 19.68 lakh passengers during the same month of the previous year, resulting in a growth of +32%. Indigo lost 1.3% of its market share to rivals Air India and SpiceJet who have recovered 0.7% and 0.5% of their market share when compared to the previous month.

Passenger Load Factor

Passenger load factor, or load factor, measures the capacity utilization of public transport services. It is generally used to assess how efficiently a transport provider “fills seats” and generates fare revenue.

While Industry leader Indigo managed a 83.9% PLF – a minuscule 1.5% increase, Air India led the field with an increase of +7.1% followed by Vistara of +2.4% and both Trujet & Jet Airways followed with an increase of +3.5%.

SpiceJet and Air Costa were the only players to have a decline in PLF at -1.4% and -0.4% respectively.

Cancellations

The overall cancellation rate of scheduled domestic airlines for the month of November, 2015 has been 0.78%. The Overall cancellation rate is generally influenced by bad weather, unfavorable flight conditions, low visibility, conditions at airports etc.
